Gods and the Pyramid by Timothy Lamb
Review of Chapter 4
Charles Smyth had a father and son pair of friends both named William Petrie. The son read Smyth's Inheritance in the Great Pyramid and became a disciple. But Petrie began studying on his own and started to question Smyth and British Israelism and published in 1874 Research on the Great Pyramid. Petrie became a surveyor and went to Egypt and survey the pyramid. He abandoned Smyth and left for a more scientific understanding of the pyramid and began preaching against Smyth and pyramidology. He eventually published The Pyramids and Temples of Gizeh with the Royal Society disproving Smyth. But for some reason pyramidology continued and Smyth stayed influential.
